1966 - Still the most iconic image

Captain Bobby Moore hoisted upon his winning team mates shoulders has been revealed as the most iconic World Cup image for English football fans in a recent survey by Klick Photopoint and Max Spielmann.

England’s 1966 World Cup triumph is still embedded in the minds of fans up and down the country, polling first place with a massive 67% of the vote.  Runner-up with 11% of the vote was Beckham’s free kick in Korea Japan 2002.

Klick Photopoint and Max Spielmann asked more than 400 men and women across England to reveal their most memorable World Cup images.  The results are as follows:

Top five World Cup iconic images

  1. Bobby Moore on team mates shoulders after 1966 World Cup win – 67%
  2. David Beckham’s goal from the halfway line in Japan – 11%
  3. Michael Owen’s goal in France 1998 – 6%
  4. Gordon Banks save from Pele in Mexico 1970 – 3%
  5. Geoff Hursts controversial goal in 1966 – 2%

Sandy Kennedy at Klick Photopoint says: ‘As World Cup fever begins to grip the country we thought it would be interesting to find out which iconic images stick in the minds of football fans.

‘The World Cup is such a huge sporting event and this year is no exception.  With everyone talking about their favourite sporting moments and where they were when a crucial final penalty was scored or when a top player was sent off.  I’m sure Germany 2006 will be no different and provide us with some fantastic images just like 1966.’

Courtesy of Fujifilm – Klick Photopoint and Max Spielmann are offering one lucky customer the chance to get a real piece of the action with a chance to win two tickets to the FIFA World CupTM final in Germany on 9th July along with return flights, accommodation and £150 spending money.  To find details of your nearest store visit www.klick.co.uk or call 0870 750 5625/6.
