Snap into the summer feeling with Klick Photopoint and Max Spielmann

Great weather, outdoor activities and even a trip abroad makes summer one of the best times to take a host of great holiday snaps.

To ensure your holiday memories aren’t over in a flash, the UK’s leading independent photo retailers, Klick Photopoint and Max Spielmann, have put together some easy tips for using your camera allowing you to lie back, soak up the summer sun and take some fantastic holiday photos.

Before you go

  • Firstly, remember to pack your camera!

  • Always make sure you have enough film or memory cards and batteries to last your holiday.

  • Set your camera to the highest resolution, to ensure high quality pictures.  Remember, this might mean you need a bigger memory card.

Taking the picture

  • Once you’ve decided what photo to take make sure you choose the correct scene selection, for example night-time, outdoors, indoors, party etc.  This will ensure the camera will get the best light for your picture.
  • When taking your photo, look through the lens or screen if you’re using a digital camera carefully, making sure everything you want in the photo is there, no fingers should be in the way!  And remember, use your zoom function if you want to get a closer shot or move further from your subject.

  • When photographing a person, remember to put them at ease and say cheese!

  • If it’s a sunny day be careful of the suns position in relation to the camera or the person in the photo.
  • Catch the action by using continuous shooting or burst mode on your digital camera.

Sandy Kennedy at Klick Photopoint said: ‘Everyone looks forward to developing their holiday photos so it’s important to remember a few basic pointers to help you take the best possible shots.  It’s also a good idea to familiarise yourself with your camera and its settings.

‘As well as the hints above, always remember to take your camera on day trips and to evening events as you never know when a good photo opportunity will occur and always take more than one photo of a particular scene to help guarantee you get a shot that you like.’

What’s more, if you forget your camera, you can always take snaps on your camera phone and get them developed at any Klick Photopoint or Max Spielmann.

Jargon Buster

Finally, if you sometimes find the “jargon” confusing, here are some helpful explanations that should make things a bit clearer.

  • Pixels – short for picture element, a pixel is one of the millions of tiny square dots that make up a digital image – the more there are the better the image.

  • Memory – digital cameras don’t use film, they use memory.  Memory cards/sticks work in the same way as film, the larger the size, the more photos you can take.  The larger sizes also allow more high quality photos to be taken.

  • Digital Zoom – lets you see the picture closer.  The more you zoom the closer it will get.  X2 means you see the image twice as close.

  • Exposure – when you take a photo the light meter within the camera determines how long the shutter should be open for, therefore obtaining the correct “exposure”.

  • Resolution – refers to the number of pixels used to either capture or display an image.  The higher the resolution, the better quality of the picture.

Sandy has one final tip: ‘Most importantly, have fun with your camera and enjoy taking your photos!’
