Picture Perfect Scotland
Edinburgh Castle has topped the polls once again to claim its rightful position as Scotland’s most photographed image, in a recent survey by Klick Photopoint.
The survey focused on Scottish landmarks which the public felt best represented Scotland for scenery, beauty and inspiration, with Edinburgh Castle scooping a massive 44% of the votes.
Klick Photopoint surveyed 300 men and women across Scotland to mark St. Andrew’s Day and in recognition of the 175th anniversary of Scottish physicist, James Clerk Maxwell, who first used the Scottish tartan ribbon to create the coloured photography used today.
The images taking pride of place alongside Edinburgh Castle were:
- Edinburgh Castle – 44%
- Forth Rail Bridge – 15%
- Scottish Parliament – 11%
- Ben Nevis – 8%
- Glasgow School of Art – 6%
Sandy Kennedy at Klick Photopoint says: “St. Andrew’s Day is all about celebrating our heritage and it’s a little known fact that colour photography originated here in Scotland. Scotland is steeped in powerful history and iconic images and although some of the answers were unusual they captured the variety of scenes and images Scotland has to offer.
“I think Edinburgh Castle is a classic number one and represents Scotland in a traditional and beautiful way.”
